Abstract
This experiment was carried out to investigate the possibility of photosynthetic inhibiting herbicide such as simazine and bentazon as fruit thinner of ¢¥Fuji¢¥ apple trees. Application of simazine and bentazon with 400 §·¡¤L^(-1) at 10 days after full bloom (DAFB) of central flower in cluster of 10 years old ¢¥Fuji¢¥ apple trees induced fruit thinning effect to the almost same extent of carbaryl, however bentazon caused serious leaf injury. In simazine applying plot, the honey bees were not injuried, whereas carbaryl severely damaged them. Simazine with 400 §·¡¤L^(-1) applied twice at 7 and 14 DAFB of central flower in cluster induced higher thinning effect than single spray of carbaryl with 1,600 §·¡¤L^(-1) at 7 DAFB. Adding surfactant ST 70 at 3,000 §·¡¤L^(-1) to the simazine solution improved thinning effect of simazine about 27%. Simazine reduced net photosynthesis of ¢¥Fuji¢¥ apple leaves more than 90% at the time of 72 hours after application.
